The Seminar Format that fits your Calendar

Learn at your pace. Then go deep in our live, online half-day intensive.

Since its inception in 2009, the Whittle Integrated Strategic Planning Seminar has been attended by more than 6,500 participants from around the globe, offering valuable insight into the methodologies and techniques that underpin our powerful approach to Integrated Strategic Planning for the mining industry.

Through the demonstration of a comprehensive and compelling case study, participants are presented with the 10 distinct steps involved in a Whittle Enterprise Optimisation model and how these mechanisms, when applied simultaneously, are significantly increasing the value of mining projects & operations worldwide.

While the core principles & methodologies behind our unique approach remain unchanged, the seminar format and delivery have continued to evolve.

Following the first seminar in Johannesburg, South Africa, Gerald Whittle went on to present the seminar in conference rooms around the globe for the next 11 years, delivering the 16 hour program over 2 full days.

In early 2020, in response to global travel restrictions caused by COVID-19, the seminar successfully transitioned to a live online format, delivered via Zoom over four consecutive half-day sessions. Overwhelming feedback and a significant increase in attendance made it clear that the online format was the preferred option. With travel no longer a barrier, the half-day structure offered a more balanced approach to work commitments.

Most recently, the seminar has transitioned again — this time to a new self-paced format, making it even easier to attend and enabling greater flexibility for both individuals and teams.

This updated format allows participants to complete approximately 6–8 hours of seminar content at their own pace through self-paced learning modules, followed by one live, intensive half-day Zoom session.

Delivered by Gerald Whittle, the live session focuses on discussion, real-world case application, and the presentation of one of our most powerful & compelling seminar modules, Theory of Constraints.

Why it has changed

Despite the benefits gained from the 2020 transition to a live online Zoom format, scheduling four consecutive half-days within a single week can still be challenging and, for some, attendance-limiting. A self-paced format offers greater flexibility and significantly less disruption to your schedule.

Better knowledge retention
The self-paced modules allow you and your team to revisit complex concepts, replay key sections, and discuss ideas internally before moving forward.

Higher value from the live session
The half-day intensive focuses on discussion, case application, and your specific questions. Participants can even submit questions in advance to maximise the value of the live session.

What’s new

Self-paced learning
All core Integrated Strategic Planning concepts are comprehensive and thought-provoking. As you begin to explore the application of these for your own projects and operations, the self-paced format allows you to absorb the concepts & methodologies and revisit them in depth.

One half-day live intensive (Zoom)
This session includes a comprehensive presentation of Theory of Constraints, a methodology that identifies the single biggest bottleneck and limiting factor to a mining operation’s performance. By focusing effort where it matters most, mining companies can achieve faster, lower-risk gains than with traditional optimisation approaches.

The live session places strong emphasis on discussion and Q&A, allowing you to explore what could be achieved for your project or operation, supported by compelling real-world case examples.
