We are delighted to announce that David Whittle, formerly of Whittle Programming and the son of our founder Jeff Whittle, has been awarded a Doctorate (PhD) by the University of Melbourne.
David’s thesis was entitled, “Underground Mine Plan Optimisation.” David investigated topics relating to planning underground mines in an optimal way. He developed new methods, using geometry and graph theory, for designing the layout of mines so as to maximise value. His findings contribute both to mathematical network optimisation theory and to the future practice of mine planning.
We are delighted that David’s research further develops the body of knowledge in this important field.
David’s degree was conferred on Thursday, 12 December, 2019 at an official ceremony held by The University of Melbourne. We express our sincere congratulations to David on this significant achievement.
